We present an interview with the authors of the annual IMEMO Sea Powers’ Rankings – Alexander P. Polivach and Pavel A. Gudev, conducted by the Editor-in-Chief of ‘Analysis and Forecasting. IMEMO Journal’ – Irina L. Prokhorenko. The interview focuses on how the idea to quantify maritime might of 100 countries occurred to the authors, what specifics of maritime statistics they had to take into account, what is the structure of the maritime potential of countries in the 21st century and what roles are played by military and non-military factors.
